Change Registered Agent

The registered agent is the person or business that acts as the physical manifestation of your business with the public. So, can you change the registered agent if you desire to?

In general, you can change the registered agent of a business entity in California at your whim. There is no legal regulation that keeps you from doing so. The change can be made by filing the necessary documents with the Secretary of State.

Now, there are some obvious caveats to this. If you’ve entered into some type of agreement where someone is designated as the agent, you may be forced to comply with it. Most services will let you change, but probably will not refund your fee. The same goes with attorneys. If you’ve made some type of an agreement with other investors in your business, then an attorney should be consulted to make the determination.
